The canister filter needs to be cleaned in every 2 to 3 months depending upon the fish quantity you have or the waste they produce, also the filter you are using .

For example:

  1. if you have a 2ft*1.5*1.5ft or 60p or a 127L tank and you have good amount of gold fish or any big fish which produce a lot of waste or you have an aquascape / planted tank you need a 207, instead of a 107. And for this filter you need to do a maintenance in every 3 months.

 Its because of low CO2 levels, nutrient imbalances (excess iron/low nitrates), high organic waste/ammonia spikes, poor water flow, or excessive lighting and to prevent staghorn algae you need to add these :

  1. fluval co2 indicator set for checking your co2 level,
  2. add fluval Plant 4.0 LED so you can control your light’s power and timing with the help of an app,
  3. to control organic waste you need to Fluval Biological Cleaner which reduces unsafe organic matter like fish waste, decaying leaves, uneaten food, etc.
  4. For poor water flow add spray bar kit with our 07 series or fx series to increase your current water flow and to eliminate  waste getting stuck near drift wood or Rocks, or any aquascaping materials.

So they does not have auto priming feature and if air gets inside the motor the filter will not jump start or it will take time to pull the water, so always make sure the water in you aquarium doesn’t go too low from the water output area, which eliminates the air getting inside the system.
