Microsorum Pteropus “Green Gnome”

An endemic Microsorum Pteropus variant from southwestern India, where its habitat can be seen around the western ghats mountains range.

These ferns are polymorphic as their leaves size and growth pattern differ from various regions based on the conditions that they are in.

They are found near shady and low-light receiving areas of streams and cascades settled in rocks where water is splashed frequently.

During the rainy season, they get into submerged form growing very compact leaves and as the water level decreases they transform into an emersed form and leaves will be a bit larger.

The main features of these ferns are that they show strong venation and bullous leaf blades. The temperature around there habitats is usually from 22°C to 28°C. These are slow-growing epiphytes and like water PH is around 5 to 8.

These are very much different from the normal microform Pteropus as they tend to have larger leaves in both submerged and emersed forms.

Microsorum Pteropus Green Gnome is now popular in the aquarium hobby due to its compact growth form and bullous leaf structure and its capacity to grow in both soft and hard water.
